So I had a vague idea for a photo composition the other day, something fairly ambitious for me, one with a lot of tripod use, multiple exposures and composition editing later.
It’d require a model, and I had one in mind, but before I talked to her about it I went out to a location I knew, to take a few snaps and work on the concept a bit.
When I showed the snaps to the model, and asked if she could feel the vibe I was going for, the first thing she asked was “Are you planning to murder me?”
Yeah, she gets the vibe. =)
Have a look at these test shots, and scroll down for my vision.
I remember wandering around Gippsland in the early morning with knee high mist everywhere. Might be worth investing in a fog machine. Or a bucket and dry ice.
LEDs might be better than cloth for the ethereal effect with long exposures.
I did similar things back in the 1980s XD
Yeah the problem with the fog machine (and much more a problem with dry ice) is the power requirement and the duration. I have a fog machine for the studio, it takes forever to warm up, fogs for a very brief time, then needs to warm up again. Maybe an industrial strength machine would work better… And dry ice was worse. Better fog, to be sure, but expensive and hard to produce in a hurry. Boiling water is required, and haha, not much chance of that in the bush. And sadly the naturally foggy days are unpredictable and generally more likely in winter. Which it is not. =(
Yeah it was cold. You would need one of those Russian lassies who like to run around in -22c in their birthday suit. Ok it wasn’t that cold but yeah to us soft Australians it felt like it.
