Mel’s an interesting person and she never fails to have some really excellent ideas when we’re shooting. On this day, it was a pack of carefully wrapped fluorescent wax candles, and I just happened to have some black lights in the studio. ^__^

The thing about fluorescent things and black lights is that… black lights don’t put out a whole lot of light. Two 1.5m black light tubes makes the wax pop to the naked eye, but it does very little for the camera compared to a normal studio scene. So the ISO goes up, the shutter speed goes down, and the number of really great shots is fewer than anyone would prefer.
