Covid-19 Safety
Covid-19 is still a real threat in Australia. As of May 2024, NFG is not currently asking guests, spinners, spotters and other support crew to wear a mask.
Please be aware of your own health. If anyone feels unwell, they are asked not to attend, and if they appear sick, may be asked to leave (or wait outside with the mosquitoes).
Overview
A photoshoot is usually a fun time. You show up and do what you're good at, and NFG will take photos of you. When the session is over you'll get all the photos from the session in a private gallery. You'll be able to view and save these low-res proofs, and select which ones you want in high resolution.
There are, of course, more details, and here they are:
Pricing & Deposit
Currently, for most studio sessions, NFG asks the following:
Session: $100 per person
Edited Photos: $40
Partial Edits: $15 (more info)
When you book a session, NFG will ask for a deposit before the session can be confirmed. Usually the deposit is $50 per person, but you're welcome to pay the entire session cost if you like.
The remaining session cost must be paid before you receive your edited images. NFG accepts cash and direct deposit. Banking details are:
Bank: ANZ
BSB: 014-295
Acct: 519895808
Acct Name: Lawrence Wright
Please Include a shoot date or your username or some useful reference in the payment comment.
HOW TO GET THERE
The NFGstudio is conveniently located near three major freeways and the Ipswich train line.
When you arrive for your session, please park anywhere on the street in front of the NFGhouse, but try to avoid parking on the grass, and the driveway.
Come straight through to the blue studio door in the back yard. The address is:
3 Hendren CT, Goodna
(Google Maps Link)
HOW LONG IT LASTS
A session is an hour, except when it isn't. Not everyone needs the full time, some people need more. NFG isn't much of a clock-watcher if things are going well.
Most shoots take an hour of hard work for one person, up to two hours for two people, but increasingly less time for larger groups. Three people take a little more than two hours, four or five people take two to three hours, etc. Extra people means less down-time, so that someone's working up a sweat all the time.
Setup and warmup time is not counted in the session time. Wardrobe changes aren't counted. If NFG feels like you're dragging your feet, he'll glare at you, and possibly mention it.
WHAT TO BRING
Bring what you normally take when you do whatever it is you do. Grip, water, a towel, a snack, etc. Bring a few outfits, for variety, and most pole dancers will bring at least one pair of heels. The NFG studio has mirrors and if you might need to apply or fix your face or hair, bring whatever you'll need to do that. For pole shoots, NFG also has metho and rags for keeping the pole fresh.
The most important thing to bring is a list. Either a list of moves you want to get photos of, or a collection of images on your phone, or printed on paper, or something. This is more important than anything else, and if you forget your move list you're going to have a bad time.
Seriously. Make a move list, and don't forget it!
It is not unusual to bring some support crew, to help with spotting, spinning or finessing your finer points (Point your toes! Lock that knee!) etc. If you do plan to bring anyone, please let NFG know in advance. And, as noted at the top of this page, support crew will be required to wear a mask throughout the shoot.
Apparatus
The NFGstudio is equipped with a 45mm spinning brass pole. It cannot be locked. It can be installed or removed in about 10 seconds, so don't hesitate to ask for it to be swapped in or out during your shoot.
There is only a short set of blue silks, and a shorter white set, for aerialists. If you'd like any other apparatus, you should bring your own (and all the rigging gear you can find).
EDIT POLICY
NFG takes a fairly light approach to editing your photos. As a rule, temporary marks on the body are a removed, and few permanent ones. Moles, acne and birthmarks are removed, and skin is smoothed. Bodies are not changed, slimmed, or adjusted in any way.
The thinking here is: a photo captures a moment in your life, and NFG doesn't want to make permanent those temporary or tiny marks that no one would notice when they meet you.
In addition, electric lights introduce shadows and marks on the skin that the camera will see, but no human would see with their eyes. The hope is that you'll look good but you won't look different.
If you'd prefer to have some marks left in, or other tweaks made (or not made), you can ask NFG. Do note however that he does not consider himself a photo retoucher, so he will not be able to change your body without making you look like a goblin.
BAD IMAGES
Photography is not perfect. Sometimes things go wrong, sometimes the photographer goes wrong. In every shoot there are bound to be shots that are blurry or the lights don't fire or they're just bad in ways that cannot be fixed. If and when this happens, NFG is very, very sorry.
Like, really sorry.
But, sadly, nothing can be done. NFG appreciates your understanding, and he's very sorry.
MODEL RELEASE
NFG will ask you to fill out a model release. This is a short form that will ask you how you'd like to be identified or tagged if your images are shared, grants permission to NFG to share your images (or not), and assures you that NFG will only use your images to promote his own products and services.
If you'd like to see the release before your shoot, just ask NFG.
AFTER THE SHOOT
A photoshoot is a workout! Don't expect to train or do anything strenuous after a shoot. It's one thing to do your favourite move in training, it's another to do it hard, point your toes, straighten that leg, adjust your hair and then do it again. And again.
Typically your unedited proofs will be made available in a gallery on nfgphoto.com within 48 hours of your session. You might get anywhere from one hundred to four hundred images per person to choose from, depending on the type and length of the shoot.
These will be un-edited, and though you can save them and share them, NFG does ask that you either leave the 'unedited' text intact, or mention in your post that the image is unedited, and not representative of NFGphoto's finished work.
The gallery has a shortlist feature, so you can go through your images, add the ones you think you like to the shortlist, and then review the shortlist.
And then, when you realize how beautiful you are and how much it will cost to edit all the photos of your awesome self, you can remove a bunch from the shortlist in a panic, before hitting the GO button and sending the list through to NFG automatically.
Edited images will usually be made available to you within three days. If you don't get them within five, give NFG a prod because he has forgotten you exist. Sorry in advance.
Please note that both the proofs and finished images will only be online for a limited time. Neither the proofs nor the finished images will ever be deleted, NFG keeps them forever, (backed up in three places!) but they will not be available online for more than 90 days (ish). If you lose them and need another copy, NFG will probably have them if you ask. (Apologies in advance if weevils eat the hard drives or whatever, sometimes things happen and if you lose your own copies of your images NFG can't guarantee they can be replaced).
