This one’s going back, way back, to 2011, featuring Kaicee in an abandoned and falling down house. <\/p>\n

This shot is my favourite from the shoot. Below are the two versions of the image, from 2011, and re-edited in 2020. Can you guess which is which?<\/p>\n

Back in the day, I would use super dramatic high-contrast images to try and make up for my lack of skill, and confidence, in the images I was capturing. If it didn’t look right, max out some sliders and crank some dials. I was a big fan of the bleach bypass<\/i> filter.<\/p>\n

I’m not 100% sure that the new version is better. I love the old edit and I have had nearly a decade to get used to it as the definitive version<\/i> but I am more confident about the new one as a bit of art that reflects my style, skills and intent<\/i> right now. The old way of doing photos was just too random for me to use it as a foundation upon which to stand as a photographer<\/i>.<\/p>\n

And I think that’s what the rest of this gallery really shows. Put an attractive person in front of me and I’ll get good results, but I won’t get consistent<\/i> results. These shots are a random variety of styles, and though I love the photos and I’m really happy with what we achieved, the unpredictability of it really marked me as an amateur.<\/p>\n

A few days ago I met up with Kaicee and we had lunch in the park where some of these photos were taken. There’s a chance she’ll be back in the galleries again before too long. =)<\/p>\n
