It’s sometimes difficult to convey with photos how magnificent the human body can be in motion. A photo reveals the hidden details, but it loses the context, the before and after, the flow. It’s a different kind of magic.<\/p>\n

This is one of my favourite shots from the session. The image offers many hints about the motion, but it’s the viewer who decides what it means. The flying hair, the bent knee, the thigh that hovers above the floor. And throughout, pointed toes.<\/p>\n

This image impresses me more the longer I look at it. The perfectly straight arms, the bend of the spine. Pointed toes, and the barest hint of a toe touch on the floor.

I had the great fortune to work with Giulia as she was passing through town with Cirque du Soleil. She’s crazy talented, strong and flexible, and has an incredible sense of movement and flow.<\/p>\n

We started off doing some static poses, the standard foot-to-head contortion. Then, once she was warmed up, she just started to move, from one position to the next, ceaselessly and apparently effortlessly bending and diving, leaping and crawling, her hair alternately flying and draped across her body.<\/p>\n

It was utterly magical, and captivating, and I am so glad I had this chance to work with her.<\/p>\n
