This is a common thing for me when I’m shooting pole. I don’t know what visual cue I’m picking up on but something in the framing makes me do this a lot. So that’s the first thing I correct in every pole photo. Even if it’s only a degree or two off, it’s gotta be fixed because that giant reference pole will definitely be noticed.

So here’s the cropped and straightened image, and the final edited version.

Aurelie moves around a lot, so there are a heap of marks to remove from the floor. The usual skin smothing and a bit of hair cleanup, and done.

But it still wasn’t my style. Red and blue just don’t work for me. I bought a mountain bike last year and I had the choice of Boring Ass Black, or Blue with Red. I bought the boring one because blue and red is just eye searing. So I went back to the source, and tweaked it all up again. Here’s the edits for both versions:

As you can see, the blue version didn’t take much work, but the second revision received a ton of tweaks. I had to hammer the red and luma channels, and reign in the highlights a lot, to try and keep the colours under control. Both versions had the base black level brought up a notch, but the new image had it raised a little more, plus the shadows were raised. Throw in a smidge of ‘clarity’ for extra pop, darken two corners, cut the exposure back to zero… And let’s nudge the colours of the shadows, highlights and the midtones…

Yeah.
